Description
The Nike Cortez Basic SL GS 'Forrest Gump' brings back one of the most recognisable colourways in Nike history. Featuring a clean white upper with bold red and blue accents, the sneaker stays true to the classic design that helped make the Cortez a cultural icon. The streamlined silhouette and simple colour blocking highlight the timeless construction of the model while maintaining its lightweight comfort.
Built with durable leather and a foam midsole, the Cortez delivers the familiar comfort and support that defined Nike’s early running footwear. The crisp white base combined with the striking red Swoosh and blue heel stripe creates a look that is instantly recognisable across generations.
Backstory
Originally introduced in 1972, the Nike Cortez was designed by Bill Bowerman as one of the brand’s first successful running shoes. The model quickly gained popularity for its innovative cushioning and lightweight construction, helping establish Nike as a serious competitor in the running footwear market.
The white, red and blue colourway later became widely known as the “Forrest Gump” edition after appearing prominently in the 1994 film Forrest Gump. In the movie, the character Forrest receives a pair of Nike Cortez sneakers and famously runs across the United States wearing them. This moment cemented the colourway as one of the most iconic in sneaker history.
