Backstory
Introduced in 1982 and designed by Bruce Kilgore, the Nike Air Force 1 was the first basketball sneaker to feature Nike Air cushioning. Originally built for performance on the court, the model quickly gained recognition for its durability and distinctive design. Over time, the Air Force 1 transitioned from basketball staple to one of the most important icons in sneaker culture.
The infrared colour tone became famous through several influential Nike models, particularly within the Air Max series. Its bright, energetic appearance helped define Nike’s bold visual language during the late 1980s and 1990s. By incorporating this colour into the Air Force 1, Nike created a version that connects two significant elements of the brand’s design history.
