Description

The Jordan 5 Retro Olive (2006) is a distinctive release from the mid-2000s era of Jordan Brand, revisiting one of the most recognisable silhouettes in the Air Jordan line. Originally designed by Tinker Hatfield and first introduced in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 became known for its fighter jet–inspired aesthetics, reflective tongue and aggressive midsole detailing. The 2006 Olive edition reinterprets the classic model with a military-inspired palette, pairing olive suede uppers with contrasting black and bright orange accents. The result is a bold yet versatile take on the silhouette, reflecting the experimental colourways that defined Jordan retros of the period.

Produced during a time when retro releases were gaining momentum among collectors, the Jordan 5 Retro Olive (2006) represents an important moment in the expansion of the Air Jordan legacy beyond original colourways. Its unique colour scheme and limited availability have since cemented the pair as a notable entry within the Jordan 5 lineage.

Backstory
When the Air Jordan 5 debuted in 1990, it introduced several design innovations that pushed basketball footwear forward. Tinker Hatfield drew inspiration from World War II fighter planes, visible in the shark-tooth shapes on the midsole and the aggressive stance of the silhouette. The model also featured a reflective 3M tongue, lace locks and translucent outsole elements, making it both performance-driven and visually striking.

By the mid-2000s, Jordan Brand began exploring new colourways that expanded the cultural reach of classic silhouettes. The 2006 Olive release embodied this approach, moving away from traditional Chicago Bulls colours in favour of a rugged, military-inspired look. Over time, the pair gained recognition among collectors for its distinctive palette and its place within the early wave of modern Jordan retros.
