Backstory
The ‘Rens’ nickname refers to the New York Renaissance, the pioneering all-Black professional basketball team founded in Harlem in 1923. Known simply as the Rens, the team became one of the most important forces in early professional basketball. Nike translated that history onto the Air Force 1 through blue and gold detailing inspired by the team's uniforms, alongside a commemorative tongue patch. The connection feels especially fitting for the Air Force 1, a silhouette with deep cultural roots in New York and Harlem.
